A Comment on gGotterdammerung (Twilight of the Gods)h

This opera is the fourth, and the last opera of the gRing Cycle.h Brunnhilde plays an active part in the second opera, gDie Walkure (The Valkyrie).h Siegfried plays an active part in the third opera, gSiegfried.h And, a key role in this fourth opera too, gGotterdammerung (Twilight of the Gods),h isc the villain, Hagen. Hagen is a true villain. He stabs Siegfried in the back with a spear. And, he enthusiastically persists in trying to get the magic ring. He is the worst villain in the worldfs operas.

The gRing Cycleh is made up of 4 great operas, and to perform it needs more than 15 hours. This gigantic opera can be interpreted as several ways. How do you read this opera, and when you finish enjoying it, what do you feel from it?

To perform these 4 operas, gRing Cycle,h Richard Wagner tried to build an opera house in Bayreuth. However, his funds were insufficient. Then, King of Bavaria, Ludwig II, appeared in front of Wagner. Thanks to substantial resources which Ludwig II possessed, a new opera house was finally completed. In 1876, the Bayreuth Festival was held, and these 4 operas, gRing Cycle,h that is, gDer Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung),h were performed for the first time. Today, this Bayreuth Festival is one of the most famous opera festivals in the world.
